Call for Volunteers

Seasons Central-West St. Martins at St. Chads 861, Sandringham Rd, Sandringham, Auckland Supporting Children Living with Loss and Change Seasons Central-West runs the Seasons for Growth® grief and loss peer-support programme for children and teenagers who are missing someone significant from their lives, due to a death, parental separation or any other major change/loss. This programme provides the children an opportunity to gain the knowledge, skills and attitudes to respond to such experiences in a healthy way.

If you enjoy working with children or teenagers, can commit to 2-3 hours a week during school term and you know what it’s like to miss a loved one PLEASE consider becoming a Seasons Companion/Volunteer and make a huge difference in the lives of hurting children. We provide a two-day training/workshop for those who can commit to at least one term per year.

Seasons for Growth is delivered in Central and West Auckland schools that have a need. It is an 8-week programme with each session running for one-hour, once a week, on the same day and time during school term. You will facilitate small groups of four to seven children of similar age, with another trained Volunteer/ Companion supporting the children using a wide range of activities that encourage the sharing of experiences and help them learn the process of grief. Topics include feelings, telling our stories, memories, change, strengths and resources.

Seasons for Growth

St Martin’s @ St Chad’s has established a Seasons for Growth programme for children and young people in the Central-West area of Auckland City.

Seasons for Growth is an innovative grief and loss education programme that uses the imagery of the seasons to illustrate the experience of grief. It aims to strengthen the social and emotional wellbeing of children and young people (aged 6-18) who are dealing with significant life changes by exploring the impact of change and loss on every-day life, and learning new ways to respond to these changes. Trained adult ‘Companions’ facilitate the small group programme, where participants support and learn from each other in age appropriate and engaging activities. Young people learn that they are not alone in dealing with the effects of change, loss and grief and build their communication, decision making and problem solving skills within a supportive peer group.

The programme coordinated from St Martin's @ St Chad's is delivered in schools to groups of 5—6 children of similar age. The children are referred to the programme by parents, teachers or social workers because of some behavioural change which seems to stem from the recent loss of someone important in their lives. This loss may be because of death, divorce or imprisonment of the significant person.

We employ a dedicated, part-time Co-ordinator to run the Seasons for Growth programme. She leads a group of volunteer companions who deliver the programme which runs over 9 sessions during a term.
